It was announced Thursday (20th August 2020) from Ski Racing Australia that “due to the on-going and complex restrictions around the COVID-19 pandemic, including the hard border closures, the Board of Ski Racing Australia have decided it is necessary to postpone the commencement of the 2020/2021 season. The season is now proposed to run the full calendar year from January to December 2021.”
For the Moama Water Sports Club which conducts two events in the Ski Racing Australia calendar, this means that the 2020 Barrie Beehag Ski Race proposed for November 2020, is now cancelled.
Moama Water Sports Club President Steve Shipp said “This COVID-19 pandemic has affected us all and we all need to follow the advice from our governments and health officials. We are disappointed that the Barrie Beehag Ski Race will not be run in 2020, but we look forward to welcoming all to the 2021 Barrie Beehag Ski Race in November 2021.”
The new start to the Ski Racing season will the Southern 80 to be one of the first races on the Ski Racing Calendar, being conducted on February 12th to the 14th February 2021.
